All about foster families

What is a foster family?

Foster family is one of the forms of help for children who, for some reasons, cannot be under the care of their biological parents. People who are not parents of a child take care of him, giving him a chance to grow up in conditions close to natural. The child is placed in a foster family or a family children's home until the difficulties that gave rise to the child's placement have been overcome.

How does one become a foster family?

Who can become a foster family?

Starting a foster family is a task that we will not undertake alone, already having our own family. Both candidates and their loved ones are often required to be consciously involved in the cause. Foster parents are required to pass the qualification stage. There are several avenues through which you may become a licensed foster family:

A married couple

People in long-term, cohabitating relationships are obliged to engage in a foster family together. The lack of consent or willingness of one of the spouses excludes the possibility of creating a foster family by  the couple.

At the stage of conversations with psychologists, biological children are also asked for their opinion on starting a foster family.

Families with children

If you are a biological parent, the opinion of your own children is extremely important – especially if you live together.

Single people

If you are a person open to big changes in your life, that's great! Single people (unmarried or divorced) can become a foster family, but it is important to carefully discern your life plans with the best interests of the child in mind.
